Nicholas is inspired by the creative works of the late Jim Henson and Charley Harper, the simplicity of Wim Crouwel and Ed Emberly, the scissors of Saul Bass, the signature of Paul Rand. In no specific order. Movie credits like 'catch me if you can' and the iconic work of Maurice Binder.
Nicholas worked as senior graphic designer at the Myer Grace Bros head office in Melbourne City, designing identities, magazines and packaging for the forty fashion and Manchester house brands. Later he worked in an advertising agency as an art director and designer. His designs could be found on racing cars, cereal boxes, posters and within international design publications.
Having graduated from Monash University 1993 with a BA Degree in Graphic Design (Majoring in illustration), Nicholas has professional consultation and applied experience with; graphic design, photography art direction, branding, multimedia, packaging design, signage and project management.
He worked on projects for clients such as; Hewlett Packard, Sue Stanley, Mark Viduka, BHP, Telstra, Ford Australia, Deakin University, Mitch Dowd, APPEA, Myer Grace Bros, RACV, DJM Personnel London, Ecowise and MWT Group.

Inspired by most things modern; Paul Rand, Eames, Danish design, Isamu Noguchi, textile design, 50s californian homes, Robin Boyd. Having graduated from the Swinburne School of Design with Honours, Mara began her career working for a boutique design studio in St Kilda. Clients included fashion and homeware brands, interior designers and photographers.
In 1999 Mara co-created a boutique bath and body range which was sold in stores across Australia for several years. More recently, Mara spent 4 years working in the head office as a senior graphic designer at Country Road to gain a further insight into the business of fashion, textiles and retail. This fueled the passion for quality fabrics, beautiful images and design. The experience also introduced Mara to working with many of the best suppliers in Australia and around the world.
Most recently the illustrations and stationery sets by Mara Girling have been a popular hit in stores around Australia and internationally. Printspace features illustrations by Mara Girling and Nick Girling. Printspace has over 100 stockists in Australia, New Zealand and in the United Satates.
